About Us
We know that lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together. That’s why, at the YMCA, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
The Telavi YMCA has been serving the community since 2004. Our primary focus group is the Internally Displaced People (IDP) from Abkhazia (1998) and South Ossetia (2008). The transition has been hard for this group forced to leave their homes and jobs behind. The YMCA offers free English classes for the children and also works with the adults to encourage integration into the Telavi community. The English program has been the main component of the YMCAs sucess and has produced many students better equipped for a multilingual work atmosphere. These classes are also help the government with English now being a required course in Georgia.
